Buy Low, Look Fabulous!

Shakara Style was founded by Lindsey Rotimi and Obonne Obiaya. We worked in the demanding world of finance in New York City for many years but we always yearned for a creative outlet

In the short term, to release our pent up creative energy, we did a lot of shopping and triangulated the three B's (Bloomingdales, Bergdoffs and Bendels) and many boutiques in between in our down time. We also began to take notice of idiosyncrasies in the jewelry and accessories market.

While all of these stores carry fabulous merchandise the jewelry and accessories were typically lacking. There were beautiful pieces that were just too expensive. Other outlets with lower price points had chintzy looking jewelry and accessories. Also, being ethnic a lot of the pieces did not work with ethnic styles of dress. These days you need a mini mortgage to buy a good quality bag. At Shakara we strongly believe you don't have to blow an entire paycheck to get a decent purse.

With a little research we learned that the mark up on the average piece of jewelry and accessories at a department store can be anywhere from 200 to 1000%!!!! We were appalled yet intrigued by this discovery. We realize that department store shopping is also about the experience. However, in our humble opinion, the experience shouldn't be pricier than the actual merchandise purchased.

On Wall Street the most common mantra for stock trading is "buy low, sell high". At Shakara we agree! Our mantra is buy low, look fabulous!!

Style is universal and should be attainable for all.
